Electronic SET Game

Discovery Channel's Discovery Kids games offer educational fun in a board game and handheld electronic game format. All of the Discovery Kids games are educational or in some way promote critical thinking. It's a great way to encourage kids to improve science, logic and thinking skills while having fun. Some of the games are related to shows that appear on the Discovery Channel while other games are simply a "Discovery Channel" twist of already well known and popular games like Monopoly.

Discovery Kids Hand Held Electronic Games

As hand held electronic games become more popular, Discovery Kids has branched out and offers several choices for portable electronic fun.

360 Tetris

Playing the puzzle game Tetris is challenging enough as it is, but add to that the dimension of being able to work around 360 degrees placing puzzle pieces on four different sides, and you have a brain boggling game. 360 Tetris generally retails for around $20.

Electronic SET

SET is a card game where players have to find sets of various attributes. The game is a real visual challenge in thinking outside of the box. This handheld electronic version retails for around $20 and is similar to the regular card game. If you enjoy playing SET, this is a great option for travel. Kids who love visual puzzles will love this game.

20 Questions Electronic Family Game

Can a handheld game really guess what you're thinking? Nonbelievers are always amazed at the accuracy of 20Q. One player picks an object, and the rest of the players try to guess what the object is before 20Q does. It is everyone against the 20Q in a race to see who will win!

KenKen is like Sudoku in that it is a mathematical logic puzzle. It was invented by a math teacher to help train his students' brains to think logically and mathematically. Like Sudoku, it's very addictive.

Discovery Kids Board Games

Discovery Kids offers two board games although it should be noted that they occasionally change their offerings to match popular shows or Discovery Channel themes. For example, over the years there have been at least a few versions of Monopoly with distinctive 'eco-friendly' themes.

Planet Earth Monopoly

Played just like the old favorite Monopoly, Planet Earth Monopoly lets players sell, trade and buy things like animals, habitats and landmarks in lieu of buildings and public utilities.

Cash Cab

This game is based on the popular game show where participants get into a cab and are awarded cash for answering questions before they reach their destination. Players in this game choose a destination, then answer questions to arrive at that destination. If they answer incorrectly too many times, they have to go back to the beginning.

Discovery Kids Games for DS

Nintendo DS users will be happy to know that there are several games for the DS system. All the games revolve around themes that are somehow consistent with Discovery Channel's offerings. Some titles include the following:

  • Assassin's Creed
  • Puppy Playtime
  • Kitten Corner
  • Spider Quest
  • Parrot Pals
  • Dolphin Discovery
  • Snake Safari

Where to Purchase Games from Discovery Kids

Fortunately, there are a variety of places where you can purchase Discovery Kids games. Neighborhood stores like Target, Walmart and ToysRUs, all carry some Discovery Kids toys and games. Any store that carries a large selection of DS games will carry titles from Discovery Kids. In addition, you can shop online at the Discovery Channel Store.
