-- Contributed by: Susie1506Hi these are excellent ideas. I am the mother of two teen girls. We have actually done the limo thing, scavanger hunt, and Luau. I would also like to suggest a Karaoke Party. We did a Karaoke competition/Birthday party for my daughters 13th party, it was co-ed with about 20 kids and we all had a blast!! My daughter said that was her best birthday by far.
-- Contributed by: mommachristinaLucas, Obviously, how you spend celebrate your birthday is up to you, but the majority of these ideas were actually suggested by teens. If you have any suggestions you'd like to add, we'd love to hear them.-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506im a teen and most of the theme parties are weird and are not good for teens but actually for 5 year olds. -Scavenger hunt, luau, tie dye, grown up party... give me a break. - limo & sports are decent though. - i think you still need to realize we are MUCH more grown op than that. - and i am only 13. think about what older teens think!

-- Contributed by: CarolineI love both the black and white party and the laser tag ideas! Thanks for writing!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506A good party idea for a 13 year old would be a black and white party. Quite simply, everyone has to wear black and white
-- Contributed by: Margaretwell, i am turning 15, and for 2 years i have been doing laser tag and then having friends over to spend the night and pizza and stuff...maybe this will help
-- Contributed by: MikkiIn a couple of weeks I will be celebrating 13 birthday, have you got any ideas for a party involving both boys and girls. -- Contributed by: laurenBlondie, This is a great idea! This popular book series could provide lots of inspiration for a party!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506A party based on the new "Twilight" books would be amazing! There are so many things that you could do with that theme. You could have people dress up as the characters, or play the Vampire game late at night. Whatever you want to do with your party, it would be a great idea!
-- Contributed by: *blondie*lots of nice ideas
-- Contributed by: angieit fun and cool
-- Contributed by: laser tag or Paint ball shootingWe'd love to hear some input from our readers. How about it? Does anyone want to contribute some new ideas?-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506This was not very good advice except for the scavenger hunt list.

-- Contributed by: jI love the fashion show idea!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506i have donated my idea, the big city one that i had used for my 13th birthday party. i want to do something like it again, but i don't want to copy it, you know? so i'm trying to find a birthday party that isn't exactly themed- it's got a big picture but the night is loosely planned so that spontaneous fun occurs(:
-- Contributed by: Mackenzieu r right some people cant afford it and some can but it doesnt say u have to go out and buy things it suggests parks ect , use your imagination or creativity
-- Contributed by: kan idea that I used for my 13th birthday party: it's a bit expensive but it's the big 13. haha not really.
party invite max would be about 14: if you live an hour or two from a big city take a bunch of friends out to the city for the day. walk around the downtown area, go shopping, then eat lunch at a fun restaurant. example; we went to San Fransisco. walked around downtown, attempted Lumbard Street with minivans, all bought $10 knock-off aviator sunglasses, went to the wax museum, and ate at the RainForest cafe. you end up with a bunch of memories, souvenirs and pictures in the end. (:
-- Contributed by: MackenzieI would suggest throwing a party where you throw a fashion show,
-- Contributed by: jasmineumm not everybody is rich enough for some of this stuff
-- Contributed by: TJessica, Take a look at the other ideas. Have you thought about renting a rec center or going to a park?-Susie

-- Contributed by: JordanEllia, I love the movie idea!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506Who ever came up with the mall scavenger hunt party has obviously never taken a group of teenagers to the mall, don't do this unless you plan to spend your child's college fund on their birthday party.
-- Contributed by: mom of three teenagers!Hi, my birthday is in 2 weeks and im going to be 13... what should i do !!! how many guest should i invie ... im puzzeled !!!!
-- Contributed by: Omgi think that the bonfire party is a great idea! i am turning 14 and i have tons of friends so i am not sure how many people i should invite to the party because its like 20 minutes away from town! help plzz :)
-- Contributed by: haileymy birthday is in 3 weeks and i have nothing planned im turning 13 and im at a new school and everyone is really mean, but my best friends cant get alongs and i have nooooo clue what im goinng to do!!!
-- Contributed by: bout2cryi love the hippie idea

-- Contributed by: Elliahelp me please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i really need help because my bday is in 2 weeks from this sunday i am turning 12 and these are pretty cool
-- Contributed by: helppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!these are really childish. i want a normal theme that's sorta half way between a theme and not if you know what i mean. i don't want it to be all centered around 1 main theme but i don't want it to be just sitting around doing nothing. I"m 14b not 4
-- Contributed by: i'm not 5These are kind of childish. Better for 12 and younger. I really want to do something that involves a limo, but none of those ideas really work with it.
-- Contributed by: INeedAPartyIdeastill there all a bit childish for say 15, 16 year olds.. but if your 10-12 this would be good i guess
-- Contributed by: what is dis?well theme's r cool if u can find 1 that's not too childish. I'm 13 but i do kinda like the 70's idea it would b fun to how ur guests come dressed. (=
-- Contributed by: themes r weird...I would have to say teens would rather no corny theme like decades. But makeover stuff but if you over plan it kills it.
-- Contributed by: THEMES R KOOL? ummmI like the scavenger hunt mall thing.
-- Contributed by: a. nono. mousi think themes are kinda childish. i like the scavenger hunt idea, at my friends birthday we went too the mell and did that, and all of us got 20 dollars and bought a freindship stuff, and a shirt. it was cool haha yeah im thinking like a limo and go to the movies or somewere with likee 10 freinds.
-- Contributed by: no themesyea us teens don't really enjoy themes maybe some people do though, we like dances and music and food, or for another idea you could rent a limo for you and a bunch of friends and jsut ride around town having fun then go out to a buffet or somthing to eat then ride around in the limo some more. now that would be fun, hope i gave u some ideas
-- Contributed by: teens don't like themesUs teens like parties. With fave music and all of our closet friends. But not parties that have like themes. We would like a disco ball and snacks pretty much. And sometimes us teens like just to go to special places with a few certain friends. you could rent a hotel for him/her and his or hers best friends. or six flags would be awesome! or any kinda big park. hope i helped.... (:
-- Contributed by: anonymousI really like the Mall scavenger hunt birthday idea. I cant think of anything to do for my birthday and i thought that may be fun... You have great ideas... I am happy i found your site!
-- Contributed by: mjJess, Thanks for your comments!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506i think for 15 year olds and above, most teens like me want something teenage-ish. like camp-outs, or trips to london. and sometimes fancy dress house parties (like the tv program skins) or big picnics. but teenage girls always want photographic memory of it. so something that gives a good background for photos like a picnic work really well with vintage-y stuff... x
-- Contributed by: Jesshi happy birthday

-- Contributed by: JMM!heres some advice for people that r going to have a party but some of ur friends r fighting so u r considering having two parties nd u dont know what to do. im in the same sitiation and i decided that i will invite all of my friends to 1 party! if 1 of ur friends that r fighting decide that they dont want to come then oh well i dont think u r entitled to go over the top to make ur guests comfortable so they dont have to c someone they dont like last year i had all of my friends come nd nothing dramatic happend even though the didnt like one of my friends hope this advice helps but every situation is differnt!
-- Contributed by: christinaHELP! I'm turning 13 in less then two months, and i have NO CLUE what 2 do! my mom doesn't understand that i don't want to have "little kid" parties any more, can you help me? anything will do.
-- Contributed by: KelseyI need some help, I'm turning 14 in a week and a half and I want to do something fun but, I hangout with all different kinds of people preferably people who don't like each other at all. I like all of them and I don't want to choose between them but I don't want people getting mad at each other at my party cause they hate each other. Should I have to seperate small parties or 1 bigger party and if so what do you recommend. Now that I'm really thinking about it should I have one huge party with adults and little kids and both parties of my friends all together at my house. I could do fun games and then that would take the thought off of each other not like each other. Please Help! School starts in 2 days and I need to notify everyone in advance atleast a week.HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-- Contributed by: La-Tay 013so i wanted to go paintballing but that would have been at leastm 500 dollars. so i needed an idea i didn't want to do something lame. but i think i will tye-dye then everyone can do whatever they want! yes im excited now, thanks!

-- Contributed by: ?yo.. i neeedddd more.
-- Contributed by: beast from middle east.Meagan, This is an excellent idea! Thanks for commenting!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506A great birthday party could be getting a large tent, or two to three small tents and sleeping outside. You could have a cookout and just chill in the tent. Play a couple of fun games, and this would be a pretty fun party.
-- Contributed by: MeaganThanks Jen and Naomi for your helpful comments to Delaney! Delaney, why not try the mall scavenger hunt, then go out for pizza?-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506Dear Delaney, For my birthday I decided to rent a cheap limo and go to the movies with my girlfriends. hope maybe that helps for you.

-- Contributed by: DelaneySeveral of you have written asking for advice on party ideas for coed parties. Many of these parties, like the bonfire, Survivor game, luau and more will work for both boys and girls. As far as expenses go, many of these ideas will cost very little money. If food is your major expense, choose items like hotdogs, marshmallows, etc.-Susie

I wanted to give her something extra with each rose for her to open the 11 days before her birthday, I have come up with a couple like a lip gloss, a special poem, if you have any other ideas I would really appreciate it. Thank you, Laura
-- Contributed by: LauraAnn, Many of the suggestions in this article would work for boys and girls, especially the bonfire, scavenger hunt, and survivor party.-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506i am so glad that my birthday is coming and i am turning 13 but my only question is.. what can i do with boys AND girls? for girls its easy to entertain ..duh! talking about boys lol... but for boys and girls what do i do? HELP!!
-- Contributed by: annMeshala, These are some great and creative birthday party ideas! Thanks for writing!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506My 17th bday party i want to be awesome. So i searched the web for some ideas.. Besides having 4-wheelers. a fun thing teens like to do is run around. so we are doing the survivor games.. Scavenger hunt .. etc. also i have a trampoline. we loved that. Also other sports that teens like. Like basetball and football. We got water balloon and whipped cream and water guns... for a extreme water fight. Then when it gets dark, *Man Hunt* where we dress in dark clothes and run around a night trying to find the other ppl and (we had little squirt guns) *get them* . For people that aren't into all the big expensive doohickys that parties come with.. I also have friends in bands that could come play and a friend who is a DJ.. I planned this party myself, and I thought it was pretty sweet, and CHEAP.
-- Contributed by: MeshalaJodi, I love this idea! I'm a big fan of "The Amazing Race", and this is wonderful!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506We had a Birthday Party for our 13 year old son last year. We Called it Zaach's amazing race. We bught t-Shirts with a logo we designed our selfs and split the kids into 5 teams each team had their own color shirt(this was their favor to take home) We then set up club boxes all over the neighborhood and challenges at a few of the locations. The first team to get back to the house won gift cards. They are already wanting to do it again this year. It was a blast

-- Contributed by: Susie1506i am having my 13th brithday with my best friend, and ours is themed "Allice in Wonderland" we will have a caractiture artist, a mime, and lots of games flamingo croquet is going to be one of our games for out guests (having 75+, they will all need to be entertained. I also bought fabric white roses and red markers. they have to paint the roses red in the time limit. We will also have tea cup relays where you put the tea cup on your head with water in it and ran to one end of the field and back. then we will have pin the smile on the cheshire cat a costume contest a cookie eating contest and a spinning game(much like the one with the baseball bat you had to spin around and run back.) I bought Alice in Wonderland The book to give as prizes and The movie to give to the winner of the costume contest. we are having a DJ and then we are making our own food. just an idea.

-- Contributed by: malloryi think its a good idea to have a slumber party and if you have a wall that has no furniture near it you could get some cheap spot lights and a fan and do a fashion shoot or make a video of each other and show it to your class at school who knows you might even use the fan and the spot lights again!

-- Contributed by: Ashley LynnTonka, Are you just having girls, or will guys be there, too? You could let kids choose a particular character to copy, such as a secretary, police officer, the president, teacher, doctor, etc. Or, you could simply have them put together outfits that they think will be worn by adults in the future. Any readers have more suggestions?-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506Hope, Sounds like you've got a great start with your ideas! If you have a patio area, why not set up a karaoke machine as well? You could also play games in the pool, like volleyball, basketball, etc. -susie

-- Contributed by: Tonka BradleyHello Susie,
I would like to have a co-ed 13th brithday party. I have a summer birthday, and also have a pool. Any ideas, I am thinking a bone-fire since we have a fire pit and a scanvenger hunt while having the pool. We have a volleyball net also. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!
-- Contributed by: HopeCat-Great ideas! Thanks for writing!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506Michaela Caudell- for an ocean themed birthday party, i would probably have a beach volleyball net set up for those sporty gals, a big barbeque with hot dogs, hamburgers, fruit punch, salad, ect. if u have a swimming pool, great, and if not, you can have them have a waterg un fight, my daughter and her had a blast with that, and have a sand castle building contest out of clay, thats holarious, and make sure you have lots of under the sea decor that will make it feel "fishy" have fun
-- Contributed by: CatI love the slumber party, movie theme and the hotel/pool party ideas! Thanks everyone! As far as turning 18, I think a Survivor party would be a great idea!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506What theme's are there for someone turning eightteen.

All of these are teen birthday party favorites!-Susie

-- Contributed by: hiI love some of these ideas. Try expanding the ideas more... thanks though!!
-- Contributed by: Brieyou know if you rent a limo it costs 100 dollars just for 2 hours omg do you think we're made of money or somethin? then if you have alot of friends ( i do ) then your gonna have to pay atleast 200 more for the movies and teenagers aren't easily entertained just to the movies...no thats not enough that is boring and ttly not original and by the way i checked out the spa and just for 4 girls to take a mud bath it would be 230 dollars!!! once again money doesn't grow on trees you know you need a list of price ranges for ppl to pick from and then when they click on their own unique price range then give them ideas for that amount of money...come on make it affordable

-- Contributed by: Susie1506Last year for my 13th birthday, i had a mall scavenger hunt. we made 4 teams, then went to the mall. We had a list of things to get in the mall. Each team got $25. Some things on the list u had to buy and some were free. The winning team got a prize. The things each team got were givin to everybody throughout the teams, or givin to me- the bday girl. Go over what everyone got, and decide the winne. Thn hand out their prize. afterwards we went back to the house and ate cake and opened presents. Then i had everyone sleepover. EVERYONE HAD AN AWESOME TIME, AND STILL TALKS ABOUT IT NOW. now my only problem is i have to think of something better to top that for this year. hahha.
ideas of things to put on the list. ( this was my list, just an idea) You will have to get: 1. One signature from a security guard: 2. A âToo charmâ that all the people on your team agree on 3. The name of a store in which the first letter is not capitalized: 4. A magazine that has a picture of Zaac Efron in it 5. A free sample of something cinnamon-flavored 6. A brush that is not used on your hair 7. The ugliest-looking cosmetic item you can find 8. Something free from a store named after an itchy foot condition 9. A coffee sleeve from Starbucks 10. The 2006 catalogue from Coach 11. The cheapest item you can find at Claireâs; get it and list the price here: 12. A tropical-smelling perfume sample 13. A mall directory 14. A notepad with an animal on the front cover 15. A straw with a wrapper that is not only white 16. WRITE Something in Spanish off of a payphone 17. A picture of your entire group together . 18. The tiny sample spoon you get at an ice cream store 19. A take-out menu 20. What color is the hair of the center mannequin in Limited Tooâs right-side window? 21. The signature of a âChocolatierâ 22. 3 business cards 23. Anything FROM A 25 Cent OR 50 Cent MACHINE 24. A present for each girl in the group with any money that is left
This is a really great, fun and creative teen or pre-teen bday party idea.
-- Contributed by: BrennaJill-My daughter's birthday is Oct. 29th, and we've had her parties like that, too. Fun! Fun!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506My bday is very close to halloween and i always have a haunted house and a sleep over so i always have scary movies. It is alot of work but my parties are always the best. ooh and i am soon to be 14 so i no what im talkin about.
-- Contributed by: JillLeah, Great idea! You can find lots of great clothing items at thrift stores, too!-Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506try the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's themes. teens love them. this is coming from a teen so i would know. we love to dress in the past, in the best fashion of every decade.
-- Contributed by: Leahi totally agree with meg
-- Contributed by: alycatseriously? thats it?? my daugter is turning 13 and she wants her party to be big. thats all the ideas you have?
-- Contributed by: GabbyAubrey, I love the boy-girl party idea...especially the bonfire and dance! Really, teens and preteens aren't the difficult to entertain. Throw in some food, music, and plenty of room to hang out, and they'll have a ball. Be sure you have a few extra parents on-hand for supervision, however. Teens and pre-teens sometimes want to push the envelope a little to see what they can get by with!--Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506Well, if you want to go all out, and don't mind the boy-girl mix, have a party. Maybe a bonfire or a dance party. I gave my daughter a bonfire party, and had a dance floor off to the side, on the garage floor. (we set out tarp.) There was much adult supervision, but remeber- it is a teen party, and you all know how teens are. Get marshmallows, and some hotdogs, chips and some drinks. it was a blast and EVERYONE wanted to be there.
-- Contributed by: AubreyThese are all great ideas! My son is a basketball fanatic. We've rented a local rec center and invited a bunch of his friends. Throw in a basketball decorated cake and a room full of basketballs and have a ball! You could also spring for a few tickets in the nosebleed section of a college or pro basketball game, as well. As far as the movies go, that depends upon the age of the child. Preteen girls might enjoy renting a few flicks and dressing up like their favorite stars, then having a photo shoot or modeling session in the living room!--Susie
-- Contributed by: Susie1506Well.... Im a teen trying to think of something to do for my sweet 16 and im going to go for the "rave" effect! This partay will rock! Whoo thanks lovetoknow!
-- Contributed by: Liz MatthewsHey, these are all good ideas, but i would like them more in depth. What would you do for a basketball lover, or maybe the birthday child could be a movie star how would you plan those with lower costs.
-- Contributed by: kateFor a teen party I have two great ideas! 1.) Rent a limo and invite six friends and go to a fondue place that's close to a nice mall. After fondue go to the mall to just hang and look around. Then back to your house for a sleepover. E-mail for more details! 2.) Have a mall scavenger hunt! E-mail for details!
-- Contributed by: Sarahcome on. i need more ideas then that. do you have any more? any more at all. i am sick of all those boring sleepover parties, i want something REAL, something everyone will cry about if they are not invited. send me more ideas.
-- Contributed by: megIf your teen is into music - try a dance or band party. Have them create their own music, hire a band or DJ, or simply play the stereo. Turn down the lights, hang up Christmas lights and create your own home "rave" party scene.
