You're right, Betsy. These programs really have a long way to go. And so many kids have learned their way around the controls. That's why parental supervision is so important. No software program can take the place of a parent's guidance.

I tried the Net Nanny a couple of years ago. Unless it has improved greatly, it caused more problems than it resolved. With high security, it blocked sites needed for homework. With lower setting, it didn't block enough. The only feature that has proven effective is the feature that limits the time my son is online. He was in the habit of sneaking up in the middle of the night and hopping back on the computer.

And, since installing the software, the computer really has not performed as well, even when the program is turned off.~~Betsy
