Winter Activities for Kids: Crafts
Memory Book
Why not make a great memory scrapbook? You and your child can decorate the outside of a photo album or scrapbook with pictures that you've cut out or drawn. Then fill the pages with wintry items, such as snowball scenes, paper snowflakes, favorite winter treat recipes, and ticket stubs from movies, concerts, etc. You could add a few pages for dried leaves, flowers, etc., as well as pictures of you and your children enjoying the snow!
Snowflake Ornaments
Winter means Christmas is near, right? Why not make some easy and fun ornaments? Stack several sheets of paper together, then sew a line down the middle of the sheets. Next, cut designs out in the shape of snowflakes, being careful not to cut across the seam. Now, separate the layers for a lovely snowflake. This also works well with aluminum foil!
Pipe Cleaner/Bead Ornaments
String pipe cleaners through multi-colored beads, then mold the pipe cleaners into various shapes, such as candy canes, Christmas trees, stars, etc.
Shaving Cream Snowmen
It doesn't have to snow to make a snowman! Cover your kitchen table with plastic, then spray several cans of shaving cream on top. Let your kids have a ball making their own snowmen! Of course, you may want to let them wear large shirts over their clothing, but cleanup is pretty simple!
Winter Games
Indoor Snowball Fight
Yes, you can have a snowball fight indoors! Just wad up balls of tissue paper, and give each child a supply of "snowballs". Tell them to wait for your signal, then let those snowballs fly!
Maze
Create a fun maze with empty boxes taped together. Let each child work her way through the maze.
Winter Dance
Dangle homemade snowflakes from the ceiling, and put on some fun winter songs. Then, let little ones wiggle and dance to the wintry beat!
Winter Olympics
Why not create your own Olympic games outside? You can have sledding contests, jumping contests, and snowboarding contests. Use whatever you have available, such as plastic sleds, cookie sheets, garbage can lids, large pieces of cardboard, etc.
Hide the Snowman
Of course you can use any object you like, but the trick is to hide the object, then use "hot", "warm", and "cold" as hints to help the other kids find the object.
Blindman's Bluff
In this game, tie a piece of cloth around one person's eyes, then turn that person around several times. Let her go, and see if she can find the others by touching them.
Guessing Game
One person picks out an object. Then the others have to take turns asking questions about that object until someone guess it.
Board Games
On cold, wintry days, don't forget to pull out the board games. Checkers, chess, and cards are all ideal winter activities for kids. Other favorite games include [Monopoly], [Candy Land], [Chutes and Ladders], [Clue], and [Yahtzee].
