Fun Valentine Games for Kids

Whether you are helping your child's teacher plan the perfect Valentine's Day party or you are hosting a party at your home, finding fun Valentine games for kids is the key to a great party. The following games are easy to play. If you have any other games you and your family love, please share them with our readers in the comments section of this article. We'd love to hear from you!

Craft Challenge

Kids of all ages love arts and crafts, and this Valentine craft game will be a hit with kids at your next party. To set the theme, create a Valentine tree centerpiece out of bare branches propped in a small jar. Add stones, marbles or Styrofoam to hold the branch in place. Tie small pieces of paper to the branch that offer instructions on how to create small crafts and offer small prizes as rewards for a completed project. If you plan on having kids make crafts, be sure and have all the necessary supplies on hand. Cute rhymes might go something like this: "My name rhymes with stupid, I'm sweet as can be, make a paper figure that looks just like me."

Make a Match

This is a great game to play with several kids. You can divide the kids into two teams, and let them sit or stand facing each other. Hand each member of one team a word. The opposite member on the other team needs to create a match to the word the first team was given. For example, "salt and…pepper"; "Samson and…Delilah", "Romeo and…Juliet", "Dog and…cat", etc. The team that makes the most matches wins.

Don't Smile

You know that feeling when you want to laugh in a very quiet assembly, like a church or a meeting, and you know you shouldn't? That is the premise for this game, but with kids involved it's even more difficult to do! You'll need to have the participants sit in a circle so that they can all see each other. All but one of the participants will need to sit with a straight face…no smiling allowed. Only one player can smile. After a few minutes, he should wipe the smile off his face, close his hand as if he has captured the smile, and toss "the smile" toward another player. Anyone who smiles when he or she shouldn't is out of the game!

Heart Stealers

This is a fun and simple game to play. You'll need a bag of candy hearts and enough chopsticks for each player. Pour the hearts into a bowl, and let players try to pick up the hearts using only their chopsticks. Set a time limit of five minutes or so, then count each player's hearts to see who has the most.

Valentine Scavenger Hunt

Finally, one of the best Valentine games for kids is a scavenger hunt. Hand kids a list of hidden items. These could include Valentine themed toys, small candies, etc. There are numerous variations of this game. For example, you could make up small rhymes that include hints as to the location of the item. This is especially fun if the items are hidden outside. For small children, create a list that features pictures of the items. You may need to pair older children with younger ones, or let adults accompany very young children as they hunt. You can either hide prizes along the hunt or offer prizes to each child that finds all the items on the list.
