Toddler Bedding
From LoveToKnow Kids
As your baby grows and changes, you will inevitably need to upgrade to either a toddler bed or a kids' bed, and that will mean shopping for toddler bedding. There is a wide variety of bedding for kids' rooms available, including character bedding, theme bedding, and patterned bedding. Your decision will likely depend on your child's preferences and how long the bedding needs to last.
Choosing Toddler Bedding
When you set out to buy bedding for your toddler, you should first determine how frequently it will be replaced. If you plan to replace it yearly or more often, you might want to buy character bedding. If, however, the bedding will need to last a few years, in the long run both you and your child will probably be happier with theme or patterned bedding.
Character Bedding
If your child has a favorite book, television, toy, or movie character, chances are you can find it on bedding. Here is just a sample of the character's available:
- Disney Princess
- Barbie
- Precious Moments
- Hello Kitty
- Dora the Explorer
- Care Bears
- Elmo
- Thomas the Tank
- Sesame Street
- Winnie the Pooh
- Finding Nemo
- SpongeBob Square Pants
Theme Bedding
If you prefer not to buy a specific character for your child's room, you might instead opt for theme bedding. Popular bedding themes for girls include Tea Party, Ladybug, Butterflies, Dolls, Flowers, Rainbows, Ballerina, and Cowgirls. Popular toddler boy themes include Cowboy, Racecar, Sports, Construction, Transportation, and Nautical. Themes well-loved by both boys and girls include Noah's Ark, Nature, Dinosaurs, Primary Colors, Ocean, Insects, Jungle, Outer Space, Castle, and Teddy Bears.
Patterned Bedding
Yet another option is to buy patterned toddler linens. This might be the most practical choice if you need your bedding to last a few years. While a child might quickly outgrow his love of Bob the Builder, a pattern will have more longevity. Some popular patterns for toddler bedding include polka dots, stars, paisley, stripes, plaid, hearts, blocks, and geometric patterns.
Accessories
Most stores offer coordinating accessories for their tot's bedding. Many offer matching pillow shams, curtains, dust ruffles, and sheets. Some even offer coordinating wallpaper, wall borders, and wall hangings. As you set out to decorate your toddler's room, keep in mind that his preferences are likely to chance frequently -- at least for the next few years.
Where to Buy
If you are using a twin bed in your toddler's room, you can find bedding anywhere bedding is sold. Department stores such as WalMart, Target, and Kohl's sell twin-sized bedding. If you are using a toddler bed, finding bedding is a bit more challenging. Specialty baby stores such as Babies R Us carry a selection of toddler bedding. Pottery Barn Kids also sells toddler bedding. On their website, click on the baby tab.
Online Sources
In addition to local baby and bedding stores, you can find toddler bedding online. Amazon, Overstock, and eBay often sell toddler linens at discount prices. The following online stores carry bedding made specifically for toddler beds:
