Slumber Party Dances

If you are 11-15 yrs old, you can have board games, music, and dances like the five listed below:

  1. Cotton Eye Joe
  2. Electric Slide
  3. The Macarena
  4. The Cha Cha Slide, Pt.1
  5. The Cha Cha Slide, Pt 2

These dance songs are everyone's favorites. If you don't know how to do one of these dances, ask an adult or one of your friends if they know it, and they can teach you the dance.

Cool Slumber Party Games

Who Am I?

Who am I is best played with eight or more people. It is good as both an ice breaker and with a tight group of people.

  • Equipment: Index cards or something similar
  • Write the names of famous people on index cards and tape one card to the back of each guest.
  • Have everyone walk around in the same room, and instruct them not to mention the name on each person's back, but to talk to everyone as if they are the person on their card.
  • As people begin to correctly guess their secret identities, they have to continue to treat the people who still don't know their identities like the people whose names are taped to their backs.
  • When everyone guesses their "true identities" then the game is over.

Note: If the group of people has something in common (e.g. all from the same class or a club), it's fun to have themed people and inside jokes when choosing the secret identies to write on the cards.

Also, this game can be played as an entry game -- when each person arrives at the party, he receives a card, which gets the party going while you wait for everyone to arrive.

Grandma's House

Grandma's House is a fun and interesting slumber party game. It can be played with as few as two players but is best played with three to six players.

  • No equipment necessary
  • There is a party going on at Grandma's house. To attend the party, a person must bring a certain type of object. Whether or not this object is acceptable depends on a specific rule.
  • For each round of the game, one player gets to make up the rule for what objects are acceptable and unacceptable for admission to the party. This rule must remain constant throughout the round, but its effects may change depending on the situation.
  • Once a player decides on a rule for the round, play begins. Players, in turn, say "I'm going to grandma's house, and I'm bringing a _______." After saying this, the rulemaker replies with either "You can go" or "Sorry, you can't go" (go to the party, that is). When it is the rulemaker's turn, he gives an example of something that can or cannot be brought as well. When a player thinks he has figured out the rule, he should continue to tell what he would bring to Grandma's house. Players should not blurt out the rule before everyone has figured it out, as that would ruin the game for the other players. When all players have figured out the rule, the round ends, and someone else makes up a new rule for another round.
  • Keep on playing until all players are bored, then play a few rounds more.

Here are some sample rules to get you started:

  • You may only bring something colored ________.
  • You may only bring something that starts with the letter ________.
  • You may only bring something that is found at ________.

Variation: Instead of saying there is a party at Grandma's house, the game can be played with a continuous stream of words. In this version, the "I'm Going to Grandma's House" formality is done away with. Players simply say one word after another, as long as those words follow the general rule that a player has made up. In this variation, it is more feasible to make up more creative and difficult rules, sometimes relying on wordplay and sequences.

Enjoy! Slumber party games like these can be be fun!

Hide and Seek with a Twist

If people don't want to play the games mentioned above, you may want to try this game. Set the guests up in groups with one leader per group for a game of group hide and seek. One team counts and one team hides. The team can hide as a group or each member can hide in different places. In group hide and seek, you can make it a rule that if one member of your team gets caught, the entire team is out, or that the opposing team has to find all your members before they win.

This game sounds easy, but it can get hard depending on how creative your team is in finding hiding locations.

Hula Hoop Contests

You may also want to have a hula hooping contest.

  • Make sure to stock up on fun prizes that are age appropriate for your guests.
  • Let the birthday girl go first, and she gets to choose her opponent.
  • The girl who can hula hoop the longest wins the prize.
  • After the birthday girl goes, draw names from a hat to choose which two members go up against each other next, and so forth.

In Conclusion

Enjoy the fun and throw an awesome slumber party!
