PBS Kids' Games
From LoveToKnow Kids
PBS Television Shows
The Public Broadcasting System in the United States is the grandparent of PBS Kids' games. PBS Kids uses its on-air time to help promote early education to children across the country.
PBS Kids airs many different television programs which are all helping children to learn the basics of social skills. Most of the shows also help advance cognitive development. PBS Kids reaches more than 90 percent of America.
Research and Development
The Public Broadcasting System is funded by federal grants that help to ensure that the children of America (and the world) are being exposed only to good and positive role models within the television programs they watch on PBS Kids. PBS Kids is also dedicated to promoting the same values that will ultimately play a role in the development of children.
Television Shows Promote Online Game Usage
As toddlers become a bit older, they inevitably become interested in their parents' home computer. As soon as they learn that they can watch PBS Kids television and also play PBS Kids' games, they will probably begin begging to use the computer.
PBS Kids has strategically associated the computer games they offer on their website with the programming they air on television so that children feel like they are familiar with the characters they are seeing on a regular basis.
Clifford the Big Red Dog
One of the most popular children's television shows that airs on PBS Kids' each day is Clifford the Big Red Dog. This is a television show that promotes being:
- Kind
- Responsible
- Honest
- A good friend
- Respectful
The PBS Kids' website features a series of PBS Kids' games related to Clifford. All of the games reinforce the values that Clifford is constantly trying to instill in children. There are games that allow children to help Clifford in various situations and games related to sharing. There are also other game varieties such as puzzles and coloring pages.
In addition to on-line games, parents can also purchase Clifford the Big Red Dog board games:
- Clifford Beginning, Middle & End Card Game is a PBS Kids' game that is for children ages three and older. It includes a deck of cards in which sets of three cards make up a scene with a beginning, middle and end card.
- Clifford Happy Birthday Board Game is another game that involves Clifford and all of his friends. It's a learning game that also reinforces Clifford's values.
PBS Kids' Games: Arthur
Another of PBS Kids most popular shows is Arthur. Arthur is a show that does a fantastic job of depicting a brother-sister relationship (including sibling-rivalry), friends who are not always nice (and dealing with those issues), jealousy, school and homework, and racial differences (everyone on the show is a different animal species).
The television show is reinforced by a PBS Kids' game website dedicated to Arthur and all of his friends and family members. There are several games which are led by individual characters, so the player can choose who he or she likes the best and play that particular game.
In addition to the PBS Kids' games on the website, there are other games that can be purchased at various toy stores that are based on the Arthur series. One example is a Leap Frog item called, Arthur's Lost Puppy Interactive Book and Cartridge, which helps to teach basic reading fundamentals.
