Kids Trundle Beds
From LoveToKnow Kids
What are Kids Trundle Beds?
Kids trundle beds are essentially two beds in one. The top bed is the one that is normally used, and the bottom bed is usually kept hidden underneath unless it is needed for a sleepover party or a place where grandma or grandpa can rest during a visit.
Trundle beds made for kids usually consist of a mattress on the top bed with no box spring. The lower bed is usually on wheels and can easily be pulled out and used when needed. This bed also consists of a mattress without a box spring. Therefore, the actual size of the complete trundle bed is similar to a regular mattress and box spring bed set.
Beds That Save Space
Trundle beds for kids’ rooms are one solution to a small bedroom that must be shared by two children. They're not quite as popular as bunk beds, but they are a good choice for kids' rooms that have low ceilings or for younger children. Also, there are several kids who are afraid to sleep on bunk beds because of a fear of heights. Since both the top and the bottom mattresses on kids trundle beds are close to the ground, a fear of heights is not an issue.
Not all Trundle Beds are the Same
All trundle beds are not created equally. Kids trundle beds are normally the simplest and least expensive trundle bed types. Typically, the upper bed frame holds the top mattress, and the lower frame slides out from under the top bed by pulling.
In addition to the basic kids' version, there are more sophisticated trundle beds available. One type includes a lower mattresses that when pulled out it can then be "popped" upwards, so it is level with the top mattress. With a twin trundle set, lifting up the second mattress instantly converts it into a king-sized bed.
Purchase Top and Bottom Together
Some parents believe if their child has a twin bed in his or her room, and another bed is needed for the home, that the original bed can be easily converted into a trundle bed by simply buying a mattress that will slide under it. Unfortunately, this will usually not operate as expected.
The primary reason a normal bed cannot be instantly transformed into a trundle bed is the top bed must be a certain height off the floor in order for the trundle to fit under. This is why most pieces of a trundle bed sets should be purchased at the same time. Buying a complete set ensures the top and bottom beds are compatible with each other.
More Room For Toys
In today's modern world (especially in the United States), kids store a huge number of toys in their bedrooms. Many of them can be quite large and consume a significant amount of space in a room. Basically, with all the toys, there is very little room left for a bed - let alone two!
For kids' bedrooms that must house two beds, the two best options are bunk beds and kids trundle beds. The most obvious difference between these two types of beds is that bunk beds cannot be hidden, but half of a trundle bed can.
With a hidden second bed in a kids' room, there is more floor space for play time or to neatly store all of the children's possessions.
Sibling Sleepovers
Most parents who have more than one young child have heard a whine similar to, "Mommy and Daddy, can I sleep in Johnny's room tonight?" Especially on weekend nights, it's hard to say no to a child who wants to have a sleepover in his or her sister's or brother's room.
Kids trundle beds eliminate the need for siblings to sleep on their brother's or sister's floor. With the quick set up, the trundle can be pulled out and used immediately.
