Kids Book Club
From LoveToKnow Kids
Signing your children up with a kids book club is a great way to encourage reading! Book clubs typically provide a variety of books and book recommendations that will help inspire a love of reading in your kids.
Benefits of Book Clubs
Whether you choose to start your own book club, sign your child up for the reading program at your local library, or subscribe to an online book club, the benefits of kids book clubs are many.
- Encourages reading on a daily basis.-Kids who have a variety of reading materials available to them are more likely to read, especially if the materials are geared toward their specific interests.
- Promotes family togetherness -You and your family can spend time reading together. This is a great hobby that everyone can enjoy. Let each member of the family choose his or her own book or article. Then family members can share what they have read and their thoughts on the book or article with each other.
- Provides insight into your child's true thoughts.-Sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day routines of life. We run to school, to work, to ballgames and music lessons, without ever really sharing our innermost thoughts with the people who mean the most to us. A book club can open up a world of topics in children's literature and magazines for everyone to discuss and share.
Starting Your Own Kids Book Club
Sure, there are many book clubs available, but have you ever thought about starting your own club? It's not as difficult as you might think, and doing so will help your child form lasting friendships with other kids, while at the same time encourage a love of books for everyone!
- Select the group-You'll probably want to keep the members of the group in the same age range. If you are the parent of several children, consider starting two or three clubs, so that older kids aren't placed with younger ones. You can open the club up to whomever you wish---schoolmates, neighborhood children, fellow homeschoolers, etc.
- Find a group leader-If you are starting this group, then this role will probably go to you. Someone needs to be in charge of establishing meeting times, meeting places, and rules.
- Establish a schedule-It will be hard to always accommodate everyone's schedule, so choose a set time that will fit for the majority of kids involved.
- Choose a meeting place-This may be someone's home, a recreation center, the local library, or anywhere else that might work.
- Choose the books-You and the other parents should be in charge of selecting books to read before each meeting.
- Have fun!-Finally, the goal of creating your own kids book club is to have fun. You can offer snacks each time you meet, create read-along sheets that guide the children's reading, provide fun question sheets that invite the readers to hunt for details, and more.
Other Club Options
Finally, don't forget to sign your kids up with any free programs that your local library might offer, such as a summer reading program. There are also many kids book clubs available online, including the following:

- Oprah's Book Club
