Practical Joke Cautions

Kids love performing practical jokes on their friends, parents, teachers, and other acquaintances. Summer camp is also the perfect place to perform practical jokes. However, caution should be taken when carrying out practical jokes.

  • Teach your kids how to perform practical jokes by example.
  • Encourage them to look for practical jokes that are innocent and fun.
  • Don't allow them to perform any joke that might result in hurt feelings, or even more serious, injury to someone.
  • Talk firmly to them about jokes that actually break the law or cause damage to personal property.
  • Explain to them that practical jokes which could get them in trouble in school simply aren't acceptable.

With these words of caution in mind, consider the following ideas for practical jokes for children.

Suggestions and Ideas for Practical Jokes for Children

  • Rubberband Fun-This is a simple practical joke that kids can do to their parents. Wrap a rubberband around a kitchen sprayer so that when Mom or Dad turn on the faucet, they feel the full force of the water on their chest!
  • Koolaid Shower-Unscrew a shower head and fill it with Koolaid powder, then tighten the showerhead. The next time someone uses the shower, they'll get a colorful face full of Koolaid!
  • Marker Mustache-Using a washable marker, draw a mustache on a unsuspecting sleeping victim.
  • Toothpaste Jelly Roll-This is a great prank, especially for overnight parties or camps. Insert a straw into jellyfilled or cream-filled rolls or donuts, and suck as much of the jelly or cream out as possible. Next, place a tube of toothpaste into the hole, and fill the roll with toothpaste. Add some of the original jelly or creamcheese around the hole to make the roll look authentic. Now, sit back and watch the reaction as the person you're playing the prank on takes her first bite!
  • Plastic Wrap Prank-Wrap everything in friend's or relative's room in plastic wrap, including the bed, dresser, chairs, and even closet doors.
  • Toilet Pranks-Wrap the toilet with plastic wrap, or put a thin layer of Vaseline on the seat.
  • Suds Fun-Paint a bar of soap with clear nail sealer, and let it dry. Then, put it in the shower for other family members to "try" to use.
  • Coin Prank-Glue the end of a piece of fishing line to a coin using hot glue or super glue. Wait for someone to reach down and pick up the coin, then pull on the fishing line. This works best if you are out of sight while performing this prank. Continue to jerk the fishing line as the unsuspecting person attempts to pick it up.
  • Vaseline Fun-Smear Vaseline between some sleeping friends' toes.
  • Scary Fun-After your roommate or sibling is asleep, paint your face with white facepaint, then paint your eyes black and lips a bright red. Place a flashlight under your chin, then lean over the sleeper, shake him or her awake and scare the living daylights out of him or her!
  • Baby Powder Prank-Sprinkle baby powder into a hair dryer. The next time someone uses the dryer, their hair will be covered in baby powder!

Finally, these are harmless, but again, don't perform any pranks that could hurt someone or someone's property, break the law, or get you in trouble at school. Also, consider who you are playing the prank on, and if she is extremely sensitive, rethink your plan. Ideas for practical jokes for children should only focus on good, clean, safe fun.
