Houston Children's Museum Exhibits
The Houston Children's Museum offers fun, interactive activities in every discipline, from arts and crafts to science. With its unique approach to education, this museum truly offers something for everyone. In fact, there is so much to enjoy that the hardest part is deciding what to do first.
Just for Tots
Tot*Spot is an interactive, brightly colored area designed for kids up to age two. It features child-sized stairs, inclines, cars, and more -- all made to stimulate your child's mind, imagination, and large motor skills. There is also a special area just for babies to roll and stretch. Stroller parking and a parenting resource center make this exhibit convenient as well as practical.
Creative Arts
Kids of all ages can indulge their inner artist at Expressions, an art studio featuring paint, easels, clay, and computers. Kid-TV is an amazing mini TV studio that gives an interactive behind-the-scenes look at the makings of a television show. This exhibit is incredibly lifelike and features working cameras, TV screens, costumes, and more.
History & Social Studies
Kids can explore a highly detailed replica of an Oaxacan village at the Yalalag, A Mountain Village in Mexico exhibit. At this long-time museum favorite, kids tour a VW van, visit a Mexican schoolhouse, cook in a Mexican kitchen, shop in the village store, and more.
Math
Think Tank challenges children to think in new and exciting ways through math games, puzzles, riddles, and optical illusions. Thinking Caps and Thinking Chairs are provided!
Science & Health
The Houston Children's Museum offers many opportunities for science learning. The Bubble Lab is a favorite of children of all ages-- including parents! Kids make bubbles of all shapes and sizes and learn some interesting science facts in the process. Farm to Market gives a nutrition lesson from start to finish-- starting with milking a cow at the farm and ending with paying at the cash register. Ecostation will thrill environmentally friendly folks while How Does It Work? will satisfy even the most inquisitive minds.
Outdoor Fun
If you happen to come to the museum in good weather, visit the Allen Family Courtyard-- it's like a museum in itself. The Babbling Bayou indulges kids' love of water play with a variety of fun items, such as boats, ducks, toys, and spouts. In addition, it teaches a bit about water safety and water testing. Kids can have an imaginary train ride on the Red Caboose or serve pretend tea at the Victorian Playhouse. There is also a playground and plenty of running room.
