Go Diego Go is Educational

Like his younger cousin, Dora the Explorer, Diego teaches his young viewers. Each episode is packed with fun, interesting facts. Also like Dora, Diego is interactive and frequently asks the kids questions.

Animal Facts

Diego is an animal rescuer. He travels from place to place, finding and helping animals in distress. In his many travels, Diego teaches preschoolers all about the animals of Latin America. Far beyond just their appearance and the sounds they make, Diego teaches little-known animal facts. In fact, preschoolers often learn things that their parents do not know. Some things Diego teaches about each animal include:

  • Habitat
  • Diet
  • Appearance
  • Survival techniques
  • How they care for their young
  • Myths related to the animal
  • What makes them unique

This knowledge helps build kids' self esteem. It also empowers them to go beyond the ordinary, everyday things and seek more.

Science Facts

Diego uses scientific tools to learn and explore. While some of his tools are a little far-fetched, many are actual tools of the trade. Realistic science tools used by Diego include:

  • Binoculars
  • Magnifying glass
  • Microscope
  • GPS navigation system
  • Sonar tracker
  • Computer
  • Camera

Seeing Diego use these tools to seek information feeds the preschoolers' thirst for knowledge. The show also awakens a love of science and scientific exploration.

Geography

Each episode of Go Diego Go takes place in Diego's native Latin America. In the course of the show, preschoolers learn a lot about the region, including:

  • Weather
  • Landscape
  • Vegetation
  • Animal life

Hopefully, this exposure will cause young children to take an interest in other parts of the world. At the very least, it makes them aware that there is a world beyond our own borders.

Culture

Diego lives in Latin America. All of his explorations take place in that region, so there is a bit of Latin American culture exposed in each episode. For example, many episodes include references to Latin American folktales and mythology.

Go Diego Go Online Activities

NickJr.com offers a whole host of fun Diego activities for tots and preschoolers, including:

Many of these fun and educational activities are free. Others, however, require a paid membership.

Diego Merchandise

Like most popular kids' television or movie characters, Diego is available on a broad array of merchandise.

Books

There are a wide variety of books featuring both Dora and Diego. Books are available in board book, picture book, and paperback formats. Popular titles include:

Toys and Games

Although Diego isn't yet quite as popular as his cousin, you can still find many toys and games featuring him, including:

In addition to these, Diego also appears in many Dora the Explorer Games.
