Gap Kids

From LoveToKnow Kids

For trendy kids’ clothes, parents can’t go wrong with Gap Kids. The only caveat, however, is that fashionable clothing – even for children – doesn’t always come cheap.

About Gap Kids

Gap was founded in San Francisco in 1969, selling a variety of apparel and accessories. It wasn’t until the early 1980s that The Gap started producing its own label and expanding as a chain. Gap Inc. currently has approximately 150,000 employees and over 3,000 stores worldwide. Banana Republic, an upscale clothing store, and Old Navy, a value-oriented chain, are both owned by Gap Inc. Gap also owns Forth & Towne, a new chain catering to women thirty-five and older. The first Gap Kids store opened in 1986.

Kids Apparel

Whether just the basics or more unique apparel, Gap Kids has a variety of casual styles to suit any child. Gap apparel can be purchased in stores, generally located in malls, or online at Gap.com.

Gap Kids has a large selection of children’s clothing, ranging in size from four to 18, with slim and plus sizes also available. For younger children, Gap apparel is available through babyGap, with sizes for preemies through five years.

Gap Kids Website

The Gap website is particularly helpful with locating gifts and clothing for children. With the navigation list of their top picks, site visitors can find products by:

  • Gifts We Love
  • Bestsellers
  • Gifts Under $25
  • New Arrivals
  • Special Values
  • Slim & Husky Styles
  • Uniform
  • Dressy Styles

Clothing Choices

Gap Kids offers the latest styles each season, with some of the more popular items including:

  • Outerwear – down-filled coats for the coldest winter days or lightweight jean jackets for spring and fall
  • Signature Hoodies – sporting the “GAP” logo across the front, these are a staple for fashionable kids; available in zip up and pullover varieties
  • Sleepwear – sleep pants, pajama shirts, and pajama sets in flannel, polyester or cotton
  • Sweaters – mock neck, argyle, patterns and solid colors are all options, with cardigans and chenille for girls
  • Activewear – includes fleece tops and bottoms, as well as track pants for an active kid’s lifestyle
  • Shirts – whether casual, button down, polo, or waffle henley, there are plenty of choices for kids
  • Pants – choose cargo pants with lots of pockets or great Gap denim jeans that are always high quality; bootcut, flare and embellished styles available for girls
  • Basics – the old standby, T-shirts, are an institution at Gap; available in long and short sleeves
  • Shoes – both casual and dressy footwear styles complete the outfit
  • Dresses/Skirts – casual to party dresses, Gap Kids has a range of styles
  • And more – accessories include winter wear (hats, gloves, scarves), underwear, baseball caps, socks, and belts

Bargain Shopping

Check your local Gap Kids for the latest sales – some of the best bargains can be found on the sale racks. Alternatively, visit the ‘Sale’ section of the gap.com Website or visit a Gap outlet store, which typically includes a section for kids’ clothing.

Returns and Price Adjustments

Gap Kids’ return policy is similar to most, requiring a receipt to issue refunds or exchanges for items returned within ninety days of purchase. Gap also offers a one-time price adjustment. If, within two weeks of purchase, an item you purchased goes on sale, simply bring the original receipt in, and they will credit you the difference. Online purchases may also receive a price adjustment within two weeks of the invoice date.

Without a receipt, store refunds over $5 are issued as a merchandise certificate for the current selling price. The certificate is mailed to your home address to be redeemed during a future visit.

Returns can be made at any Gap store (Gap Kids, babyGap GapBody), even if you purchased an item online and want to return it to a store location. The original invoice and credit card used for the purchase must be presented for a refund or exchange.
