Fun Sites for Kids
From LoveToKnow Kids
There are plenty of fun sites for kids available online, allowing your children Internet time that is safe for surfing. Below you will find sites that are entertaining for the young set, along with those that are even educational.
What Makes a Site Appealing
While you may spend plenty of time on Digg or Craigslist, kids will forgo simple information sites for bright colors, whimsical animations and other webpage goodies geared toward their age level. For this reason, sites that are specifically designed for children are popping up all over the Internet, both original and those spun off from grown up sites like Yahoo! Kids.
Children also need websites that are easy to use – no complex clicking or computer commands welcome. Many fun sites for kids will feature clickable images to make navigation easier, while capturing their interest at the same time.
Kids' websites often also have sound effects to keep it fun and interesting, so you’ll want to be sure to have a pair of headphones on hand if your computer is in a common area where the bleeps and sing song sounds will reach every family member.
Entertaining and Fun Sites for Kids

Disney.com features a game site for kids and teens. Play games such as "Run Bolt Run!" and "Corbin Bleu's Dance Commander", to name just a couple of activities found on this site. You will discover hours of entertainment featuring popular Disney movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, and TV shows such as Hannah Montana. Classic Disney characters can also be found throughout the site, so your kids can enjoy both classic and current members of the Disney family.

PBS Kids features four main sections – coloring, games, music and videos. Print out pages featuring the characters from popular PBS shows that your child can color, play music on the cyber-pattern player, or watch video clips from their favorite episodes.
American Girl
Little girls love the American Girl series, from their classic historical books featuring young girls from various eras, to modern day fun and games found throughout the site. Parents beware – the site features an online store.
Cheating Planet
The name may sound awful, but in reality Cheating Planet is just an online cheat site that provides kids with video game codes for various gaming systems. Boys especially will go for this site when they're stumped on their Wii or Playstation.
Educational Sites
There are fun sites for kids that are educational as well. Below are just a few of the great options available via the Internet to help children learn and be entertained at the same time.

Safe Resources
There are also safe resources designed on the Internet to help parents find appropriate sites for kids. Google has a filtered search option to make their expansive search engine appropriate for children and teens. Kid Sites also contains a detailed list of Internet destinations that are kid-friendly and reassuring to parents.
However, your best resource is to keep discussion open with your children and be aware of where they are browsing. Keeping the computer in a common area of the house such as in a den or kitchen, can help you monitor their Internet time without hovering and smothering.
Today's generation spends more time on the computer than anyone previous – encourage their most important avenue of knowledge with enthusiasm and sound guidance.
