Fun Childrens Websites

From LoveToKnow Kids

The Internet offers a plethora of fun children's websites that you can let your children go to and feel safe about them being online. Of course, they are still online and you should go over Internet safety and make sure that they don't get onto sites that you do not approve of. Also, make sure that your kids know not to give out personal information ever while they are online.

Computer time is fun!

Finding Fun Childrens Websites

Whether you are looking to have fun or reinforce skills from school, there are tons of fun children's websites for your children to play and learn on.

Webkinz

Webkinz is probably one of the most popular websites for kids. You initially purchase a pet from a local store and then log in online to officially "adopt" your pet. You can collect several, but parents should be aware that after the first year of adoption, there is a fee to remain active on the site. So in other words, if your child would still like to keep up the life of Fluffy the dog, you can simply pay the nominal fee and then your child has access to the website for another year.

There are games, some of which are educational and many of which are just plain fun. The pets that are adopted get a room and kids can "buy" more things for their pet. . .they do this by earning points through playing games. Parents should note that there is a chat room on this site.

PBS

For the younger set, not much beats the PBS site. The site is organized by your child's favorite character and/or activities. For each character, there are a host of options for your child to do. The one down side is that if your child is young enough to really enjoy PBS, he is probably too young to really navigate a site by himself-even though the site is super user friendly. With that said, the site also offers both videos and music that your child will likely enjoy.

Yahoo

If you didn't know that Yahoo had its own version just for kids, it's time to get reacquainted with the search engine. Although technically this is a search engine for kids, it appears much more like a kids' site with links for games, videos, cartoons, and even something for homework help. If the site seems overwhelming at first, go down to the bottom and check out the list of things you can do.

ALA Great Websites for Kids

The ALA Great Websites for Kids is an invaluable tool because it lists numerous websites under school subject headings. However, don't think of this as a great homework site-although it could certainly serve as that. Rather, think of it as a site listing fun and cool websites that possibly happen to coincide with your child's homework!

Funology

Funology, as the name might imply, is a site simply about having fun. Whether you want to play games online or make cupcakes, the site is all about promoting fun things to do. The site is most appropriate for late elementary/middle school. However, if a parent wants to sit with a younger elementary student and look through the site, there is no objectionable content.

Having Fun on the Internet

Getting online can be a great source of entertainment for kids. Most kids' websites are designed with some educational element to them so that there is some value in allowing your kids time every day to play around online! Remember to keep safety in mind and review the rules with your kids often so they can enjoy their favorite websites.
