Practical and Cheap Choices

Free kids' games are the perfect solution to a few common problems:

Free Kids' Games
  • Parents often spend a good chunk of money on brand new games for their children only to find that the kids become bored after playing them a handful of times.
  • Kids are notorious for losing small pieces that come with games, rendering the games useless and unplayable.
  • Children (especially young ones) outgrow most purchased games within a few years.

It is true that there are a few specific board games that just about every household in America owns, such as Monopoly, Life, and Scrabble. These are some of the old standbys. However, there are countless other games that look good from the outside, but are a waste of money.

Boredom Busters

One of the most common phrases that mothers around the world hear from their kids, especially when school is closed for a vacation is, "Mom, I’m bored." This phrase is followed by, "There’s nothing to do!"

With a little bit of preparation and knowledge, mothers can now respond to the whines of their children by stating, "Why don’t you play one of the free kids' games available on the internet?"

The truth is, there are thousands of free kids' games available on the internet, but there are also books that contain game ideas, and additionally, there are other ways to creatively come up with free kids' games by simply using the imagination.

Free Kids' Games on the Internet

There are many popular internet sites that offer free games that can be played by kids of all ages. Some of them are suitable for children old enough to use a keyboard and a mouse, but not old enough to read. Others are very complicated and challenging for older kids.

A few of the most popular free kids’ games sites on the internet are:

Most of the games that are included on these websites are educational and fun. For younger kids, there are coloring pages, memory games, and other age-appropriate activities. For older kids, there are games that are more challenging, but still fun to complete. Some examples include interesting math word problems, brain teasers, and word puzzles.

Free Kids' Games in Books

There are several published books which contain free kids' game ideas. While some of the games require simple items for art projects, most of them are already present in the home and do not require anyone to spend money.

Following are a few of the recommended books which contain great game ideas for kids:

Games that Use the Imagination

After searching the internet and flipping through books, if kids are still not satisfied with any of the available free games, they can always tap into their imaginations in order to come up with a fun game.

A few ideas for free kids’ games that can be modified or enhanced are as follows:

  • Scavenger Hunt – If there are enough kids to play this game, a scavenger hunt can be a fun way to spend an afternoon. A parent or another unbiased adult must come up with the list of items for the scavenger hunt. Then, the list is given to both teams and the first team to collect all of the items on the list wins.
  • Tennis – Tennis is a great game for kids of all ages. If there are two kids, they can hit the ball to one another (an official tennis court is not necessary), and if there is only one child, he or she can hit the ball against a wall.
  • Friendly Challenges - One way to have fun, clean the house, and make some money at the same time is to challenge a bunch of friends (or the members of a family) to see who can make the most money at a garage sale. Have everyone clean out their bedrooms, basements and attics, and then bring all of the items together. Hold a garage sale, and see who can make the most money in a single day! The highest dollar amount wins.
