Free Kids' Games Online
If your children love computer games, check out the many free kids' games online. It's no secret that kids love to play video games. Despite market research that shows the average gamer is in his or her twenties, video games are largely considered to be the domain of children. What is a secret, one that many parents would love to learn, is the best way to provide kids with the games they love to play without going to the poorhouse due to the exorbitant price of computer games. One good method of avoiding the costs associated with video game purchases and rentals is allowing your children to seek out free games via the internet.
Flash Games
Macromedia's powerful animation software Flash is in use all over the web these days and one of its most common uses is in the creation of free kids' games online. These games range from very crude and simplistic to surprisingly intricate and advanced. Some are created by everyday people who are simply showing off their Flash design skills while others are made by professional game designers. Many of these are new takes on classic arcade games and often feature popular television and cartoon characters. We've seen versions of Space Invaders starring characters from South Park and Rugrats, as well as games starring the likes of Spongebob Squarepants, which look and play suspiciously like Super Mario Brothers.
Free kids' online Flash games can be found literally all over the web. Almost every site that contains kids' content will have some form of Flash game or games to keep them occupied for a while. There are also several sites that specialize exclusively in Flash games for kids. Many of these also offer their games for download so the kids can play offline as well as on the web.
Game Demos
Companies which develop and publish games have offered short demo versions of their titles free for several years, but it is only since the internet explosion of the 1990's that these have been readily available online as free downloads. All sorts of games are available this way, a great many of them designed for children. In most cases the demos are versions of games with limited functionality to offer the gamer a taste of what the full game has to offer. They are a marketing tool, designed to whet the gamer's interactive whistle and make her want to purchase the title. Sometimes the full version must be purchased from a retailer or online dealer, other times a code can be purchased which will unlock the remaining features. Many kids will simply play the demos they download online over and over, perfectly happy with their free online game, limited functionality or no.
From a parent's point of view it is nice to know that it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to keep a game-enthusiastic child in new games. Since video games for the PC can cost anywhere from twenty to sixty dollars, the advent of free kids' games online is a proverbial godsend to parents as well as their children.
