From LoveToKnow Kids
With the influx of computers and Internet access, free homework help is as accessible as a click of the mouse. Kids from all over the world can find homework help on virtually any subject, and much of the advice they receive is from professional volunteers, including teachers.
Helping Kids Succeed
Homework can actually begin for children as young as kindergarten age. Typically, most homework given at this age should be very short, preferably no more than five or ten minutes worth. Giving homework to young children actually sets the foundation for the later years. If children learn to spend a little time at home brushing up on the skills they’ve already begun in the classroom, good habits begin to form. Kids need help when it comes to developing those good habits, however, and that’s where parents, and even grandparents and other caregivers, come in. Check out the following suggestions as you help your child develop good homework habits:
- Location- Designate a particular area in your house that will be known as the homework area. This area should offer you have easy access to your child, so that you can supervise her work and help her stay on task. A dining room or kitchen table usually works well.
- Aiding and Abetting- While it may be easier for you to just do some of the more difficult problems that your child encounters, try to refrain from doing so. Your child needs to become an independent learner, and she can’t do this if you are constantly solving every homework problem. Limit your homework help to checking her work, and then going over the mistakes she made, helping her correct them, and letting her try similar problems until you are satisfied she has mastered the skill.
- Parent/Teacher Relationship- You and your child’s teacher are allies in her academic career. It’s important that you communicate with the teacher as often as is necessary. Of course, this doesn’t mean every day, but if you are concerned about a certain subject area or skill that your child is struggling with, then by all means set up a conference, or at least contact the teacher by e-mail to share your concerns.
- Daily Schedule- We’ve all been there. It’s eight o’clock at night, and your child suddenly remembers he has a project due the next morning. You can eliminate some of this last minute panic by immediately checking your child’s daily worksheets if he has them or asking him about each subject matter’s assignments. As a last resort, keep a few extra supplies on hand, such as markers, poster paper, construction paper, and glue.
Free Homework Help
Sometimes, we as parents simply don’t understand how to do some of our children’s homework. In other cases, our kids just don’t want to ask us. No matter what the reason is, there is help available. There are many different Websites that offer free homework help for students of all ages. In some cases, the free homework help is in the form of a forum. Kids post their problems on the forums, and volunteers post the answers. In many cases, the problem may have already been posted by someone else, so finding an answer is as easy as rewording a query. In other instances, kids may have to wait 24 hours before receiving a suitable answer. If time is a factor, be sure you allow enough time to ask your question and receive the information.
In some cases, there are tutors available and waiting to answer questions on particular topics. These tutors are divided by their areas of expertise, and they may be e-mailed particular questions to answer. Sometimes they maintain their own homework forum Websites, and they use these tutoring opportunities to boost their viewing totals. They may charge to give assistance on their individual Websites, but they will volunteer their time for free homework help to build their clientele. Once they’ve received the questions, they may either post their answers on a forum or send a direct e-mail back to the student.
