From LoveToKnow Kids

With a bit of imagination and some creative Fathers Day ideas for kids, you can make the important men in their lives feel special on the day set aside for them.

Let Kids Have a Say

If you are a bit stumped when it comes to thinking of Fathers Day ideas for kids, get some help by asking your children for some ideas. Ask them how they want to show their father, grandfather, or other man they have a special relationship with how much they care. Make a list of their suggestions, and then you can choose the one or ones that you like the best.

Showing someone that you care doesn't have to be an expensive proposition. A number of families need to be budget-conscious these days, and kids may enjoy making something for a Fathers Day gift.

Suggestions for Fathers Day Ideas for Kids

Here are a few suggestions for Fathers Day ideas for kids that you may want to consider.

Make a Card

Let children get creative and make their own Fathers Day card. They can use one or all of the following to make them unique:

Acrylic paints Colored foam Crayons Markers Ribbon Stickers Pictures from magazines

Fold construction paper in a rectangular shape and let the child decorate the front of the card. Younger ones may need some help with printing or writing a message inside, while older children can write their own. They can cut letters out of magazines and paste them inside if they don't want to write something out.

You also have the option of typing a message on the computer and printing it out. Use an interesting font and experiment with different letter sizes to make the card interesting.

Cook or Bake Something Special

Another way you can make dads and grandfathers feel special is to make them a gift from your kitchen. Kids can be involved from the beginning. Let them help to choose whether they want to make a special breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Decide on the menu together; you can even take the children with you when you go shopping for ingredients.

Another option is to bake a favorite dessert to celebrate Fathers Day. Very young children can help to measure and pour ingredients, and older ones may be able to take charge in the kitchen while you supervise their efforts. If you are looking for something simple to make, drop cookies are a good choice, and just about everyone likes chocolate chip! More experienced bakers (and more patient helpers) may want to make a cake, brownies, or squares.

Make a Baseball Card Craft

Start with a photograph of your child holding a baseball bat. Take a piece of paper with a sports motif (available at a craft store) and use it as a border for the photograph. Glue a piece of white paper on the back of the photograph.

The piece of white paper is where you can record the child's "stats," including:

  • Name
  • Age
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Name of their team (Feel free to be creative here)
  • Position played

This idea can be modified to fit different sports, according to the child or dad's interests.

These are just a few Fathers Day ideas for kids. Whatever you decide to do to mark the day, the man in question will appreciate it since it involves his children or grandchildren. Perhaps the most precious gift you can give is the gift of time. Spending time together leads to wonderful memories that will last long after the day is over.
