Easy Kids Crafts
Easy kids crafts are simple projects that kids can complete at home or in the classroom. Basic materials required are glue, scissors, and paper. Additional art supplies will vary from glitter, stickers, yarn, or markers.
Collages
Materials needed include:
- a large poster board
- glue
- markers
- letters
- numbers
- scissors
- pictures, school work, or art projects.
Collages are easy kids crafts for children to make. Using a poster board, glue the various pictures or papers all over the entire board. The pictures or papers can be glued straight across or they can overlap one another. Using precut numbers or letters, paste on a title and glue the numbers for the year in which the collage was created. Collages are a great way to display the several projects that come home with children each day from school.
Picture Frames
Materials needed to make a simple picture frame include:
- construction paper
- a picture
- yarn
- glue
- a hole puncher
- scissors
- art supplies
In order to make a picture frame, fold one piece of construction paper in half and cut out a small square in the middle. Line the picture with glue and place the center of the construction paper on top of it. Placing a second piece of construction paper together with the first piece of constriction paper, punch holes around the two pieces of construction paper about a half inch away from the edge. Feed yarn in and out of the holes and tie it at the end. If yarn or a hole puncher is not available, the two pieces of construction paper could be glued together and a border can be created around the edges instead. Decorate the newly created frame to make it unique and special.
Shape Pictures
Materials needed:
- construction paper
- scissors
- glue
- crayons or markers
Cut out various sizes of shapes. Shapes can include a circle, triangle, rectangle, and square. Have children create a picture using only their shapes. For example, an upside down triangle and two circles could be an ice cream cone. A large square with a triangle on top could be a house. Two smaller squares could be the windows, and a smaller rectangle could be the door complete with a tiny circle for the door knob. Once the children have planned out their shape pictures, they can glue the shapes onto the construction paper and then add details with crayons or markers.
Ornaments
Materials needed to make a simple ornament include:
- glitter glue
- string or yarn
- pinecones
- newspaper
Line the floor with old newspaper and place the pinecones on top of the newspaper. Using various colors of glitter glue, run the glue up and down each pinecone. Tie or glue a loop of string to the top of the pinecone and children have just made their very own ornament.
Earmuff Creature
Materials needed:
- glue
- piece of string or yarn (a couple of inches in length)
- two cotton or puff balls
- googly eyes
- markers
- two small plastic cups (around 2 oz.)
Glue the openings of the two plastic cups together (creating the creature.) Glue the piece of string across the top (which is actually the bottom) of the top cup. Glue the cotton balls at the end of each side of the string (creating the earmuffs.) Glue the googly eyes on the top cup between the two cotton balls and draw in a nose and mouth.
