Beach Toys
From LoveToKnow Kids
If you are lucky enough to live or vacation near the ocean, it's time to get the hottest beach toys and head to the sea. On sand or in the water, beach play is popular with kids of all ages and their parents.
Safety Issues
In addition to the typical water safety issues, beach play poses some unique hazards, including:
- Jellyfish and other stinging creatures can live in the water, and often look like balloons or plastic to kids. Advise children not to touch any "balloons" or unfamiliar items in the water or on land.
- It is easy to lose track of distance and location while in the water. Select a place marker and have all family members periodically check and adjust their location.
- Water conditions in the ocean can change quickly. Water that is knee-deep can rapidly become chin high, or higher. Make sure children are wearing adequate safety devices.
- Oceans are usually full of sinkholes and undercurrents that can pull an unsuspecting swimmer under.
- As tides change, calm water can quickly become powerful waves.
- Do not allow young children to stray deep into the water without an adult.
Beach Toys for Sand Play
Most adults would agree that the sand is the worst part of the beach. It is gritty and itchy and creeps into uncomfortable places. It is next to impossible to vacuum out of our cars. Still, the sand is quite popular with kids of all ages, and beach toys make sand play even better.
Toddlers & Preschoolers
For toddlers and preschoolers, the sand is usually the best part of their day at the beach. Youngsters enjoy the sandy texture, and often enjoy covering their bodies in grit. Most young children also enjoy digging in the sand, filling buckets, and pouring it out. Although this play can quickly bore older kids and adults, toddlers can easily spend hours absorbed in sand play. These toys will help:
