So does anyone have any plans to see something particularly exciting this summer?

We are going to:

The aquarium
The beach for collecting samples (LOL I’m teaching oceanography in the fall at our homeschool co-op.)
The Intrepid
And probably a few shows in New York City

Working on summer passes to the water park and six flags because they love to go. The zoo is always a winner, a couple of trips to the art museum and the libraries as well as frequent trips to the local pool with its water slides.  We also want to hit the Dallas World Aquarium at least once this summer too.

I’m so jealous about those shows in New York that I can’t remember what we were planning for the summer. Oh yes, trips to Six Flags, outings with our youth group, summer camp for both girls (one week each), short trips to movies and such. We also have a pool, so we have friends come over and swim quite a bit. Just not this week. It’s rainy and too hot.

That’s funny Lori!  My in-laws gave us $$ for Christmas to spend on taking the kids to somewhere fun—so we are trying to spend responsibly!  wink  So the shows are thanks to the in-laws. In general, my kids would rather spend money doing something together instead of getting presents so that’s the route we’ve taken with Christmas in recent years.

I’m jealous that you have relatives who listen and will give money for outings instead of gifts. Seriously, how many Barbies does a little girl really need? I’ve begged and begged for $$ for classes, trips, etc, but no luck so far.

We are really on a tight budget this year, so we’re sticking to low- or no-cost activities:
*Dollar cinema
*Parks, picnics
*Splash pad in our neighborhood
*Free outdoor concerts, musicals, plays
*Drive in movie (my daughter is newly obsessed with the 50s and we’re having a 50s sleepover for her birthday)
*Activities at the library and bookstores
*Playdates
*Children’s museum on free family Thursdays
*Art and science museums on free family nights
*Beach
