I’m really lucky to not really have to deal with this issue since I work from home, but I have often wondered what parents do when their kids are in daycare but get sick. I’m guessing daycare facilities won’t allow sick kids in, and if the parents can’t get the day off from work, where do the kids go?

I don’t have to deal with it either. . .but you have to stay home and take time off. It’s the same as if they were in school too because you cannot send a sick kid to school!

I haven’t had to deal with this either, because I’ve been really blessed to work from home. However, I have a lot of friends who work. You are right. Daycares won’t let the kids come if they have a fever, most of them anyway. Your options are finding a family member or friend to watch the child or stay home.

My friend told me about a daycare run by a hospital downtown that offers temporary daycre for sick kids. The kids stay in bed the whole day, but are treated by staff who is trained in dealing with sick children.

I don’t know…it’s nice that this option is available for people who need it, but if I was a sick kid I think the last thing I would want would be to get hauled off to an unfamiliar place where all the other kids felt miserable too.

Personally I would not feel comfortable leaving my children when they are sick.  I would want to be there to comfort them and also to make sure they are getting what they need medically.  I know a nurse can help, but no one knows my children and their reaction to sickness more then I do.  I also agree with you Tamsen.  I would not want my sick child to be around other kids that may have a different sickness.

This is a nice option, however, for parents who cannot for one reason or another be home with their children.  I feel blessed that I can, but I know that is not the case for everyone.

I agree with you, Christine. It is a good option for parents who don’t have any other choice, but when it comes to my kids being sick I really want to be there with them until they feel better.
