I’m so glad she’s feeling better Christine. I do not love having sick kids. . .and in our house, once someone gets sick. . .it runs through EVERYONE. So if there’s vomiting. . .it means that I’m doing excessive laundry for weeks on end. Glad it wasn’t swine flu either!

I took the kids to get their regular flu shots and the clinic also offered them the Swine Flu vaccine, which I wasn’t expecting to get offered, so I had to make my decision right there. I probably would have gotten it for them if the receptionist hadn’t thrust a release form into my hand to sign that certified I understood the risks of the shot, but then couldn’t explain the risks to me. That freaked me out, and I wound up only allowing them to get the regular flu shot.

I’ve since had time to chat about it with a friend of mine who is a physician, and I will probably take the kids back to get the Swine Flu vaccine too.

I have gone back and forth and decided not to get the vaccination for my kids.  Almost all my friends kids have had the swine flu and it is turning out to be just like a regular flu.  There is a chance that we had a touch of it.  I have heard some people get it really bad and others not so bad.  We have decided to take our chances.

I guess a lot of it depends on if your kids are in the high risk group for the swine flu. I don’t even know what age group qualifies as high risk, do you? I know my son is considered high risk but I think it is because of his respiratory issues as opposed to his age.

My husband and I felt it was better to save the vaccination for high risk children and adults.  I read that children ages 6 months to 18 years old, who have had medical conditions are considered high risk.  It sounds like your son would be a good candidate for the vaccine.
