I know many local theaters offer free movies in the summer, but I was adding up some issues today and wondering if they are worth it or not. For example: *Daycares bring in their kids and it is crowded and noisy On the other hand, there is nothing like watching a movie on the big screen. I finally came to the conclusion that the dollar theater might be a better value for our family, skip the snacks and have a McDonald’s cone after for a treat. We can see the movie when we want, pick the movie, it costs .50 on Mondays and is usually much less crowded and noisy. What does everyone else think? |

You know…in years past I would’ve agreed with you…but now that we are going on our 20th or so straight day of rain, I’m happy to take the kids out anywhere for free! They are crowded though, and that is a big negative for our family. How about instead a movie night under a homemade “tent” in the living room. I don’t know why but my kids love tents! |

I love the idea of a movie night under the tent. All kids love tents don’t they? Especially the tents that are made from chairs and blankets and create a huge mess. Those are the most fun. Right now the weather has been beautiful, so the kids are enjoying riding their bikes and spending time outside, but I’m going to tuck this idea away for the next rainy day. |

Don’t forget the popcorn! We’ve not done this often but when we have done it, it’s been fun. I think too for my kids a big “treat” is to get to stay up late. . .we use it as part of their reading rewards too. Of course, I think anything that is free entertainment is very spiffy. |

Our local theater doesn’t offer free movies, but instead offers first-run matinees for $2 during the summer and that includes a popcorn and soda for the kids. I think the nominal charge keeps it from getting too packed, but it’s cheap enough for us to enjoy without breaking the bank. |
